Updating Your Corporate Tax Registration Details on EmaraTax

Changed address, signatory or activity? Update your UAE corporate tax registration on EmaraTax promptly to keep filings and FTA notices on track.

update corporate tax registration uae

Corporate tax registration details must be kept current on EmaraTax. When the legal name, address, authorised signatory, contact details, business activity or financial year changes, update the registration through the portal's amendment function and upload supporting documents for the change. There is no separate form; the update is made against the existing corporate tax account identified by your TRN.

# What changes must be reported

Anything the FTA relies on to identify you, contact you or assess your obligations counts. The obvious cases are a change of legal name after rebranding, a change of registered address or contact details, and a change of authorised signatory or tax agent. Less obvious but equally important are changes to the business activity, for example entering a new sector, and changes to the financial year, which directly move your tax periods and filing deadlines.

Corporate changes behind the scenes matter too. A change in ownership, a merger, or a licence amendment should prompt a review of the registration data. Build a registration check into every corporate change checklist so the tax record never lags the commercial reality by months.

# How to update on EmaraTax

Log in, open the corporate tax account, and use the amendment or update function rather than starting a new registration. A new registration for an already-registered person creates a duplicate record that must be unwound, so always amend the existing account. Complete the changed fields, upload the supporting documents, and submit the declaration.

Track the amendment to approval on the dashboard, just like the original registration. Download the updated confirmation once approved and circulate the new details to your accountant, auditor and bank. If the change affects the financial year, confirm the resulting tax periods on the dashboard before diarying filing deadlines, because this is where silent deadline shifts happen.

Changing the authorised signatory

This is the highest-risk update. If the old signatory leaves and nobody updates EmaraTax, the business can find itself locked out of its own tax account at filing time. Process the signatory change as part of the leaver's handover, with the board resolution ready before the departure date.

# Consequences of letting details go stale

Stale registration data fails quietly until it fails loudly. Filings can be rejected where signatory details do not match, FTA information requests go to dead email addresses and escalate unanswered, and refunds can be delayed where bank details are outdated. None of these outcomes is a legal defence: the obligation to keep the record current sits with the taxable person.

Make the registration a living record. Review it at least annually, alongside the financial statements, and after every material corporate event. A ten-minute review once a year prevents the frantic, deadline-day discovery that the person authorised to file left the company six months ago.

# The annual registration health-check

Once a year, alongside the financial statements, review the EmaraTax registration record line by line: legal name, address, contact details, authorised signatory, business activities, financial year and tax periods. Confirm each item against the current reality and amend anything that drifted. This fifteen-minute review prevents the slow accumulation of stale data that causes filing rejections and misdirected notices.

Tie the health-check to a corporate event calendar: after every board meeting that approves structural changes, after every licence renewal, and after every senior finance departure. The check should be a standing agenda item for the finance function, not a reaction to a problem. Record that the check was done and what was found; the record itself evidences governance if the registration is ever questioned.

What the check covers

Identity details, contact details, signatory and agent access, activity codes, financial year, tax periods and filing deadlines shown on the dashboard. Every item verified, every discrepancy amended.

Group health-checks

Run the check for every group entity in one exercise, producing a one-page status per entity. Central oversight catches the dormant subsidiary whose signatory left two years ago before it becomes a filing crisis.

FAQ Answers to the questions people actually ask

Frequently asked questions

Does updating details change my TRN?

No. Amendments are made against the existing corporate tax account and the TRN stays the same. A new TRN only arises from a genuinely new registration, for example after deregistration followed by re-registration. If the portal ever suggests a second registration, stop and amend instead.

How quickly must I report a change?

The guidance expects changes to be reported promptly, and in practice you should update EmaraTax as part of completing the underlying change. Do not batch updates for year-end; a signatory change in particular should be reflected before the old signatory's access is removed.

We changed our financial year. What happens to filing deadlines?

The tax periods shift to the new financial year, which moves the nine-month filing deadlines. Confirm the new periods on the EmaraTax dashboard after approval and re-diary every deadline. Watch for a short tax period arising in the transition year, which has its own filing deadline.
