IFZA Company Setup Cost: What the Licence Really Costs
IFZA publishes no verified licence price schedule. See how visa packages, outside costs and renewals build your real Dubai setup cost.
ifza licence cost
If you search for an IFZA licence cost, you will find confident prices everywhere except from IFZA itself. The authority publishes no licence price schedule we could verify, and resellers set the numbers you see online. IFZA sells packages by visa allocation, so your real cost depends on how many visas you need, which activities you choose, and what sits outside the headline package.

# Why IFZA Publishes No Single Licence Price
Founders usually arrive with a number they found online and ask whether it is real. The honest answer is that nobody can confirm it from an official source. IFZA does not publish a licence price schedule that we could verify, and the authority's own site describes packages and services rather than a fixed tariff. Every precise figure you see for IFZA comes from a reseller, an agent or a comparison site, and each seller builds its margin and its inclusions differently.
That gap matters because two quotes with the same headline can cover different things. One seller bundles workspace and support into the package. Another strips them out and adds them back as extras. You cannot judge either quote until you know exactly what the package contains, so treat every advertised IFZA price as a seller's offer, never as the authority's price.
# How IFZA Pricing Is Built Around Visa Allocation
IFZA builds its pricing around packages, and the package ladder follows visa allocation. The entry point is a licence-only package that carries no visa allocation at all. Higher packages carry one, three or six visa allocations, and each step up that ladder raises the package price because you buy the right to sponsor more people under the licence.
Each package also carries a workspace element, typically a flexi-desk or shared workspace arrangement inside the free zone. You therefore never buy a bare licence from IFZA. You buy a bundle of licence, workspace and visa capacity, and the bundle you choose sets both your setup cost and your renewal cost for as long as you hold that package.
So the honest question is never what the licence costs alone. It is what your visa count costs, because visa allocation drives the package and the package drives the price.
# Costs That Sit Outside the Package Headline
A package headline rarely tells the whole story. Several cost lines sit outside it, and they arrive after you have already committed to the package. The establishment card is the first one. IFZA requires the card before the company can sponsor any visa, so a founder who plans to hire or relocate cannot treat it as optional.
Visa processing sits outside the headline too. Each visa carries its own government processing steps, including the entry permit, the medical fitness test and the Emirates ID application, and each step carries its own government charge. Activity additions sit outside as well. When you add an activity after setup, you pay an amendment charge on top of the package you already hold.
Price the full first year, not the headline, before you compare IFZA with any other zone.
| Cost component | Inside or outside the headline | One-off or annual |
|---|---|---|
| Business licence and package workspace | Inside the package | Annual |
| Visa allocation built into the package tier | Inside the package | Annual |
| Establishment card | Outside the package | Annual |
| Entry permit, medical test and Emirates ID per visa | Outside the package | One-off per visa |
| Adding an activity after setup | Outside the package | One-off per amendment |
| Licence renewal at the same package tier | Outside the first-year headline | Annual |
# How Combining Activities on One Licence Saves Money
IFZA lets you combine commercial and professional activities on a single licence, and that single feature removes a cost that other structures impose. A trading founder who also consults often needs two licences on the mainland or in a stricter zone, one for each activity family. Two licences mean two setup fees, two renewals and two compliance calendars.
One combined licence keeps the structure simple. You run both activity families under one company, one renewal date and one set of books. You still respect the boundary of each activity in your contracts and invoicing, and some regulated activities still need outside approvals, but you avoid paying for a second licence purely because your business model crosses a category line.
# Renewals, Multi-Year Terms and the Year-Two Cost
An IFZA licence renews at the package level, so your renewal repeats the package you chose at setup, including its visa allocation and workspace element. If you picked a larger package than you needed, you pay for that decision every year until you restructure the licence. Choose the smallest package that fits your real hiring plan, then upgrade when a hire becomes certain.
IFZA also discounts multi-year terms, so founders who commit for longer pay less across the term than founders who renew year by year. The discount cuts both ways. It rewards certainty and penalises change, because a pivot, a downgrade or an early exit gets harder inside a prepaid term. Fix your renewal price, your downgrade rights and your exit route in writing at setup, while you still hold the leverage.
# What You Pay After Setup: Tax and Compliance
Setup ends, but registration duties start immediately. Corporate tax registration with the Federal Tax Authority is free, and your IFZA company registers through EmaraTax whether it expects taxable income or not. Free zone companies can access the 0% corporate tax rate on qualifying income only when they meet the Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions, which include adequate substance, qualifying activities and audited financial statements where required. Non-qualifying income faces the standard structure, with 0% up to AED 375,000 of taxable income and 9% above that threshold.
VAT registration with the Federal Tax Authority is also free. You must register once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000, and you may register voluntarily from AED 187,500. Ongoing compliance then becomes a running cost, not a government fee. Our bookkeeping starts from AED 499/month, corporate tax filing starts from AED 299/year, and VAT return filing starts from AED 599/quarter. Those are starting prices, they exclude VAT, and they never include government fees.
# How to Compare IFZA Quotes Without Being Misled
Compare IFZA quotes line by line, never headline by headline. Ask each seller to name the package tier, the visa allocation, the workspace element, the establishment card treatment and every government processing charge in one written schedule. A seller who refuses to itemise the quote tells you everything about how the renewal conversation will go.
Then compare the full first year and the renewal year side by side. Add the outside-package lines, add your expected visa processing, and add the running compliance cost of books, tax filing and VAT returns. The cheapest headline often loses once you price the same scope twice. When two itemised quotes cover the same scope, the comparison finally becomes honest, and you can choose on service quality and renewal terms. Use our setup cost estimator to model the structure first, then let sellers price identical work.

Frequently asked questions
Does IFZA publish an official licence price list?
No. We could not verify any official IFZA price schedule, and the authority's own site describes packages rather than a fixed tariff. Every exact IFZA figure online comes from a reseller or agent who builds margin and inclusions into the number differently. Ask any seller for an itemised written quote that separates the package, the establishment card and government processing before you treat a figure as real.
What actually drives the cost of an IFZA setup?
Visa allocation drives the cost more than anything else. IFZA sells a licence-only package with no allocation, then packages carrying one, three or six visa allocations, and each step up raises the package price. Your activity list, your workspace element and the government processing for each person you sponsor then shape the total around that central package choice.
Is the establishment card included in an IFZA package?
Usually not, and you should confirm the treatment in writing before you pay. The establishment card sits outside the package headline in most quotes, yet your company cannot sponsor a single visa without it. Sellers who leave it out make the headline look cheaper while the card still arrives as a later charge, so an itemised quote protects you.
Can I combine trading and consultancy on one IFZA licence?
Yes. IFZA lets you combine commercial and professional activities on one licence, which removes the second licence that a mixed business model often needs elsewhere. You still invoice each activity correctly, respect any outside approval a regulated activity needs, and keep one set of books for the single company. That simplicity also cuts renewal and compliance cost every year you trade.
How much does IFZA renewal cost in year two?
Renewal repeats the package you chose at setup, including its visa allocation and workspace element, so your year-two cost follows your original tier rather than a fresh negotiation. Multi-year terms carry discounts, but they lock your structure in. Ask the seller to state your exact renewal price in writing at setup, because that is the moment you hold the leverage.
What tax registrations does a new IFZA company need?
Your company registers for corporate tax with the Federal Tax Authority through EmaraTax, and that registration is free. VAT registration is also free, becomes mandatory past AED 375,000 of taxable supplies, and opens voluntarily from AED 187,500. You then keep proper books from day one, because the Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions and any future filing both depend on clean records.
